2020 Conservative Leadership Race
The 2020 Conservative Party of Canada Leadership election will be held on August 21st. Your North Vancouver EDA functions as a neutral entity during this race. Here are the current candidates, alphabetically:
Lewis, Leslyn -
A Toronto lawyer and the former CPC candidate for Scarborough-Rouge Park, Ontario in the 2015 election. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto, two masters’ degrees, a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Ph.D. in International Law. She is also a Vice-Chair of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and a board member of the Women’s Legal Education Fund.

MacKay, Peter -
Former MP (2004-2015) from Nova Scotia. As the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, he was instrumental in its merger with the Candian Alliance to form our current Conservative Party of Canada. During his time in Parliament, Peter served in four cabinet positions, including as Minister of Justice (2013-2015), Minister of Defence (2007-2013) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (2006-2007). Retiring in 2015 to resume his legal career, he currently lives in Toronto with his wife, human rights advocate Nazanin Afshin-Jam, and their three children.

O'Toole, Erin -
Current MP (since 2012) for the Toronto-area riding of Durham. He has served as Veterans Affairs Minister (2015). Erin has been a powerful voice in opposition for our party since becoming the official opposition in 2015. He ran for the leadership of our party in 2017, finishing third. Prior to becoming MP, Erin proudly served our country as an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force (1991-2003) and then as a practicing lawyer focusing on corporate law. He is married to Rebecca O'Toole and they have two children.

Sloan, Derek -
Conservative MP (Since 2019) for the Ontario riding of Hastings-Lennox and Addington. Sloan is a lawyer by trade, having attended Queen's University after owning and operating several small businesses in the Oshawa area. Prior to becoming an elected Member of Parliament, Sloan was involved in the first Trinity Western University case in British Columbia in 2015. He has announced he’ll be seeking his party’s leadership based on a simple premise: “It’s time to stop being afraid to be conservative.” Sloan is married with three young children.
